Ribena was one of those drinks that was super popular when I was a kid. This easy and refreshing drink literally takes only a few minutes to make, and is the perfect way to end the summer.

Ribena is a blackcurrant-based soft drink, or sometimes you may find it as a concentrated version – which is what we’re using today in this recipe. I know blackcurrants are rarely found in our regular grocery stores, but they have this tangy and sweet taste that is similar to blackberries and raspberries, but sweeter with a slight earthy taste. Ribena is largely found in Hong Kong and even the UK, as it was in fact, originated from the UK. Sadly, I can never find it at many grocery stores here in Canada, BUT I was able to find it in Walmart and in a Chinese grocery store (and yes, it is the real thing with the same real labels, packaging, taste, and it’s produced in Canada).

Mix the Ribena concentrate with some sliced lemon and sparkling water, and you get a fizzy, sweet, and refreshing drink to cool off. I would say it’s the drink of the summer.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of lemon
  • Ice
  • 1-2 tbsp of Ribena concentrate (adjust to your desired sweetness level)
  • Sparkling water

Instructions

1. Slice up your lemon and place in your serving cup. Use a straw to “poke” the lemon for it to release its juices.
2. Add ice to the cup.
3. Pour in the Ribena concentrate and sparkling water.
4. Mix well and enjoy!

Fresh strawberry milk is a very popular drink in Korea – because it’s extremely simple, and it’s actually made with REAL fresh strawberries and no artificial colours/sweeteners added.

I absolutely love strawberries, and whenever it’s the summertime, I get very excited because it means strawberry season is back again. I went strawberry picking a few days ago (it was my first time) and picked some ripe and bright red strawberries. They were juicy, sweet, and just perfect. I feel like strawberries are always the sweetest during the summer. The weather was scorching, but it was fun and worth it for those strawberries.

I just love it when drinks are made with the REAL THING, meaning no artificial colours/sweeteners added. This is why this strawberry milk totally fits into that category. It’s also not as sweet and unhealthy as those strawberry milk drinks that you would typically see at the grocery stores/convenience stores, as we are using REAL ingredients here.

We’ll be making our own fresh strawberry syrup here, and mixing it with fresh milk and additional fresh strawberries. Mix it all up and enjoy!

Ingredients

Strawberry Syrup:

  • 300g of fresh strawberries (stems removed and chopped)
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

To Serve:

  • Strawberry syrup
  • 4-5 strawberries (chopped)
  • Milk of choice

Instructions

Strawberry Syrup:

1. Mix together the chopped strawberries, with the sugar and lemon juice in a wide dish. Mash the strawberries until it becomes mushy and the juices come out.
2. Add the mushed strawberries to a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat. Mix the mixture continuously to prevent it from burning. Bring to a simmer and then turn off the heat. Let cool completely. (You can also do this a day before, and the syrup can last in the fridge for up to one week).

To Serve:

Add 2-4 tbsp of the strawberry syrup in a glass, followed by fresh chopped strawberries, and milk. Stir and enjoy!

Did you know a raw egg dunked in hot water and condensed milk can actually taste like egg custard pudding? I held back at first, but when I tried it, it was actually GOOD. And don’t worry, YOU’RE NOT DRINKING ANY RAW EGGS HERE. It actually originated as a popular drink in Hong Kong and Macau style cafes back in the days when there weren’t much drink choices and people needed some source of protein somewhere.

The original name of this drink is called 滾水蛋 (gwun shui daan), which directly translates to, egg in boiled water. Now, don’t be scared and think we’re actually drinking a raw egg, because we’re NOT. The egg gets cooked in the boiling water, so don’t worry. When you add condensed milk in it, it suddenly tastes like egg custard.

If you go to Hong Kong or Macau, you’ll find that you can only find this drink at restaurants that are decades old, as more varieties of drinks were developed, and people wanted to try new things. However, some may still want to keep this old tradition and still serve this drink. It’s super easy, healthy, and gives you your daily protein. Try this the next time you need a quick breakfast or some sort of fuel before a workout!

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • Boiling water
  • 1 tbsp condensed milk (or more depending on your desired level of sweetness)

Instructions

1. In a cup, crack in an egg.
2. Pour in boiling water and mix at the same time, while breaking the yolk and the liquid turns pale yellow (you will see flurries swirling around beautifully).
3. Mix in condensed milk and enjoy!

It’s rich, it’s creamy, and it’s for everybody (vegan-friendly)! The best part? It’s ridiculously easy to make.

I wanted to make hot chocolate using chocolate pieces, not powder. Because I am a huge matcha lover, I decided to combine the two, and thus, hot chocolate just got a major upgrade. Try dipping the marshmallows into this creamy drink, you’ll love it for sure.

PERFECT for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate:

  • 1.5 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)
  • 3 tsp matcha powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Matcha Coconut Whipped Cream:

  • 1/2 can coconut cream (cream contents only)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp matcha powder

Topping:

Marshmallows

Instructions

1. Add all the hot chocolate ingredients together in a pot over medium low heat. Be sure to whisk the mixture often to prevent anything sticking/burning on the bottom.
2. When the hot chocolate is steaming and everything is smooth, pour into mugs and top with the coconut whipped cream and marshmallows.
3. For the coconut whipped cream, beat all ingredients until smooth with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes.

Note: Make sure the canned coconut cream is refrigerated overnight before whipping.

Creamy. Refreshing. Irresistible.

Remember the crazy dalgona trend where literally everyone was trying to make dalgona coffee? Well, we’re bringing it back again but this time, we’re adding matcha AND you won’t have to constantly whisk the contents to the point you feel like your arm is about to break off. This recipe saves you from that happening.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 cup milk (or sub for almond milk/oat milk/coconut milk for vegan)
  • 1 tbsp honey (or sub for maple syrup for vegan)

Matcha Dalgona:

  • 1/2 tsp matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup hazelnut almond creamer
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream (or sub for coconut cream for vegan)

Instructions

1. Whisk the matcha powder and hot water in a small bowl. Set aside.
2. Use a frother to froth all the matcha dalgona ingredients, until it becomes nice and creamy, like heavy foam. Set aside.
3. Fill cup with ice and add the milk, followed by the honey. Stir. Strain the matcha liquid into the cup of milk. Top off with the matcha dalgona.
4. Before drinking, stir everything together. Enjoy!

Incorporating some “fall flavours” in my drinks recently! Here’s a super easy one you can whip up in a few minutes.

When I think of fall flavours, spices, hazelnuts, maple leaves always come to my mind. There are already so many fall themed coffees out there, so I decided to make a fall themed latte for those who don’t drink coffee. I also decided to add a hazelnut almond foam to top it off.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of clove

Hazelnut Almond Foam:

  • 1/4 cup Silk Hazelnut Almond Creamer

Instructions

1. Mix together all the ingredients for the latte.
2. Add ice to a cup, and pour in the spiced latte.
3. Froth the silk hazelnut almond in a frothing pitcher for about 20 seconds. Pour on top of the spiced latte. Enjoy!
